Upgrades are generally performed to make a system more efficient, more reliable or capable of handling higher quantities of data. Hardware upgrades include hard disk drives and motherboards. For instance when you add an infusion of a Rune of Minor Vigor on an Tyrian Armor, it will display the name "Radiant Tyrian Armor." In the hover display the inscription will be displayed as an Inscribed weapon.

Rerolling
Rerolling is the procedure of replacing an upgrade item with another of the same type. This alters its extra stats, but doesn't alter the level of the item or a unit's attachment slot. The price of the item is determined by its rarity and level. This can be done with weapons, armors and rings.
Upgrade items are a way to boost the stats of units in Guild Wars 2 They are available in a wide range and can enhance the quality of a variety of characteristics. The upgrades increase the physical power, spell power, and health of weapons, armors, and rings. They also provide a range of other abilities to the unit. The player can use a specific item by placing it on the portrait of the unit.
Players can upgrade their items by recycling them. This will fill a progress bar and boost the value of the item's upgrade. Recycling up to six items at a time is possible, and points earned from recycling increase according to the rarity and level of the item. The upgrade that results will be random and cannot be guaranteed.
Rerolling or not depends on the player's preferences. Some players reroll so that they have a stable set of characters to carry through the game. Others may decide to not reroll because they prefer to play with their favorite character, no regardless of how powerful.
Rerolling can be costly and requires lots of work and time, so it is important to take into account the advantages and disadvantages. Ask other players for advice if you are unsure which method of rerolling to choose.

Sets
When an upgrade is put on a set or a unique item, a bonus will be given to that set. These bonuses can differ depending on the upgrade type. When an upgrade is placed on the guardian set or ring, it'll give a def bonus, while a weapon upgrade will increase the damage of the aoe.
While the additional stats offered by an upgrade item may help the build, their effects aren't always the most beneficial. If there are already near perfect non-upgraded versions of a high DPS item (whistan’s shield for FB Sorcs, as an example) upgrading it might not be as beneficial.
