World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all of its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). The level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be able to deal. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.
On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is determined. One theory says that the item level is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats really are. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. try what she says of an weapon increase the base stats. Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than in later ones, since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be bought in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has a success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects.
